Chess at Cairo’s sporting clubs and chess clubs 8
About this list
In Cairo a chess club is most often a section of a large sporting club. The Heliopolis Sporting Club runs an international rapid championship that reached its tenth edition in June 2025, one of them held together with Adly Chess Academy. The Shooting Club and Ghaba Club play in the Premier League A, and Ghaba held its first club tournament in March 2026; the 6th of October Club holds friendly and Ramadan rapid tournaments, and Al Ngoom Sports Club fields a league team.
The Cairo Chess Club, placed in Heliopolis by its event listings, is the busiest name, with a long run of mostly blitz events from October 2025 to August 2026. Two university clubs complete the list: the Nile University club in Sheikh Zayed, which won the universities league in April 2024, and AUC Chess on the New Cairo campus. Whether a non-member may play at a sporting club is not stated for any of them.
