League teams, universities and school chess 8

Part of Cairo’s chess is played inside institutions a visitor cannot simply walk into. The Premier League A is contested by teams of sporting clubs and centres: the Shooting Club, Ghaba Club, Al Ngoom Sports Club, Petro Sport and the Bulaq Al Dakrour team, none of which says how a player joins. Two universities keep student chess: Nile University in Sheikh Zayed, whose club won the universities league in April 2024, and the American University in Cairo, which names chess among the sports of its athletics office in New Cairo.

IVY International Schools in Katameya held a schools championship in November 2025 and announced a partnership with the Egyptian Chess Federation. For these teams and campus clubs, membership of the club or a place at the university or school is the usual way in, though no page sets out the rules for any of them.
